Toddler Killed, Mother Hospitalized In Eerie Case Echoing Lindsay Clancy

A 2-year-old Illinois boy is dead, and the child’s mother is hospitalized after police said she attempted self-harm in a “domestic-related homicide” reminiscent of the Lindsay Clancy case.

Officers were called shortly after 4 p.m. Tuesday to a home in Frankfort, a Chicago suburb, for a report of an unresponsive child. CPR was being administered when police arrived, and the boy was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, NBC Chicago reported.

Police said the child’s mother was inside the home attempting to harm herself. She was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

A preliminary investigation indicated the incident was a “domestic-related homicide.” An autopsy Wednesday autopsy determined the boy died in an “apparent homicide,” the Chicago Sun-Times reported. Authorities have not released the cause of death or identified the child.

Police have not identified a suspect or announced any charges. The Frankfort Police Department and Will-Grundy Major Crimes Task Force are investigating.

“Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this tragedy,” police told NBC Chicago. “We encourage our community to support one another with compassion, understanding, and strength as we navigate this difficult time together.”

A neighbor compared the case to the Lindsay Clancy killings, although police have not identified a suspect or claimed that the boy’s mother was responsible.

“This is just absolutely devastating, that this could be another Lindsay Clancy situation in our neighborhood, in our community. You never think it’s going to hit so close to home,” neighbor Carolyn Pappas said. “Just more people I think are struggling than we realize, and so we just need to be there for one another.”

Clancy is on trial for the murder of her three children, 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 8-month-old Callan. She is facing the possibility of life in prison without parole. The former labor and delivery nurse admitted to killing the young children by strangling them with exercise bands while inside the family’s home in Duxbury, Massachusetts. Her defense team is arguing that she was suffering postpartum psychosis and was not criminally responsible.

On Wednesday, the jury of nine women and three men in Lindsay Clancy’s triple-murder trial remained deadlocked after nearly 28 hours of deliberations, The Daily Wire reported. It is the second time in two days that the Massachusetts jury has told the judge it cannot reach a unanimous verdict.
