TRUMP: Migrant Invasion Of Spanish Territory Will Be A Midterm Talking Point

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump predicted Friday that the “catastrophic” invasion of Spain by around 50,000 African migrants will feature strongly in Republican midterm messaging.

“It looks like an invasion of a country by hundreds of thousands of people,” the president said from Camp David, during the first televised cabinet meeting in that location in United States history.

“And that same thing will happen to us if the Republicans don’t get elected, except worse,” Trump noted. “Much bigger … If we’re not in office, our country will be invaded at levels that made Spain look small time.”

Later on, the president added, “They say that will be a talking point for the midterms because when you look at what happened to Spain, they don’t know what to do. It is happening again today. Coming in by the tens of thousands. They are just invading the country.”

The president was reacting to shocking footage from the Spanish territory of Ceuta where thousands of African migrants swam to the shore, some using inflatable inner tubes, before marching down the beach to Cueta’s towns and villages. Video footage shows that these migrants are mostly young men. The massive breach of the border came after Spain’s Supreme Court ruled earlier in July that migrants who cross by sea cannot be deported, as The Daily Wire previously reported.

“It has been a slow trickle since the Supreme Court’s ruling, but today has been an explosion,” a spokesman for Spain’s Guardia Civil police said this week.

The dramatic situation unfolding across the Atlantic will “look good” compared to what will happen to the United States if Republicans are not elected into office, the president emphasized.

On Friday morning, speaking by phone to Fox News White House Correspondent Jacqui Heinrich, Trump told Americans to “remember that picture.”

“That’s going to be us in three years if the wrong side gets in,” he added. “If the Democrats get in, you will not live a very good life.”

Vice President JD Vance said the images out of Spain were “an unfortunate reminder of the consequences of mass migration and the radical left-wing globalist policies that have enabled the Invasion of the West,” adding, “Thank God POTUS was elected and our country’s border no longer looks like this.” 

The vice president pointed to commentary from Fox News’s Bill Melugin, who expressed horror at the number of young men who were rushing across the border.

“Just look here, do you see any women or children?” Melugin asked in his coverage. “I mean most people would call these folks so-called asylum seekers. These are young guys just flooding into the country and overwhelming what, if any, border there is.”

The State Department weighed in on the matter Friday morning, saying in a statement: “The United States stands with the people of Spain, and all Europeans, against this egregious violation of their sovereignty and human rights.”

“This unacceptable incident is the direct result of the Spanish Government’s deliberate efforts to enable and facilitate mass illegal migration into Europe,” the State Department added. “We are considering actions to defend Americans at home and abroad from this threat and stand ready to assist other European allies considering similar options.”
