After talking with President Donald Trump in the evening, Graham started to experience chest pains while he was in his Washington, D.C., townhouse. According to Tuberville, Graham called his scheduler and told her what was going on. When she asked if he had called 911, the senator replied, “No, that’s the reason I called you.”
“My former scheduler was Lindsey’s scheduler, and one of my staff members was with that scheduler that night,” Tuberville said, explaining how he learned the new details.
After the scheduler called 911, she went to Graham’s townhouse. First responders had already knocked down the door and were working on Graham. According to preliminary findings from the District of Columbia’s Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, the senator died from an aortic dissection caused by arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease.
“Lindsey basically worked himself to death, most of us have families, he didn’t have any family,” Tuberville said. “And if we had a couple of days off, he went to that airport, and he went somewhere to try to work out something for our country.”

Graham’s younger sister, Darline Graham Nordone, will temporarily fill her brother’s seat in the Senate. She was tapped by South Carolina Republican Governor Henry McMaster after President Trump publicly suggested she be appointed to the seat.
Graham raised Nordone after their parents died when she was just 13 years old. He once said his proudest achievement was how amazing Nordone turned out.
“First, I would like to thank everyone who has called and reached out over the past couple of days. I can’t tell you how much it’s meant to me and our family,” Nordone said after she was tapped for the Senate seat. “I know Lindsey was loved and respected by many and I greatly appreciate the memories and even the funny stories that have been shared. These shared experiences and our faith have gotten us through these two very difficult days.”
“Lindsey has always been there for me. Now, I will be there for him,” she added.
