He added: \u201cI\u2019m always going to stand up for Texans who are being picked on by the most powerful, most corrupt politicians in the country, and I\u2019m going to continue doing that in this race, and hopefully in the U.S. Senate.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

O\u2019Keefe pressed Talarico again, asking if he regretted \u201ctalking about God that way.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Espinoza, who identifies as a \u201cnonbinary, transgender, Latinx theologian on the autistic spectrum,\u201d previously taught courses at Duke Divinity School, including \u201cQueer Theory and Theology.\u201dBefore appearing on the podcast, Talarico praised Espinoza on social media, saying he was a \u201cBIG fan.\u201d\u00a0\u201cDr. Henderson-Espinoza!! What did you mean by that?\u201d CBS reporter Ed O\u2019Keefe asked.\u201cI was being intentionally provocative with that statement, but what it means is that God can\u2019t be defined by human categories,\u201d Talarico replied. \u201cThe Apostle Paul, in his letter to the Galatians, says that in Christ there is neither male nor female.\u201dHe added: \u201cI\u2019m always going to stand up for Texans who are being picked on by the most powerful, most corrupt politicians in the country, and I\u2019m going to continue doing that in this race, and hopefully in the U.S. Senate.\u201d\u00a0O\u2019Keefe pressed Talarico again, asking if he regretted \u201ctalking about God that way.\u201d\u00a0\u201cThere are some statements that I\u2019ve made that I certainly regret. About 67% of Texas adults identify as Christian, including large evangelical and Catholic communities.Josh Howerton, senior pastor at Lake Pointe, a multisite church based in Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas, is leading the theological charge against Talarico.\u00a0\u201cSometimes Christians naively go, well, there\u2019s nice people, and there\u2019s mean people.
