President Donald Trump on Wednesday ramped up his pressure campaign against Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD), urging supporters to flood his office with calls demanding action on the SAVE America Act.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

And I have to say, Mike Johnson and Congress have done a great job, but we\u2019re having a hard time in the Senate,\u201d Trump said at a rally in Georgia. \u201cIt\u2019s like the Senate is a place where you send things when you want them to die.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Republicans have also pointed to New Jersey\u2019s recent admission that a \u201csoftware error\u201d led to thousands of non-citizens being registered to vote, arguing the situation shows the need for stronger election safeguards.<\/p>\n

New Jersey Democratic Gov. Mikie Sherrill revealed Tuesday that the state\u2019s Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC) mistakenly registered roughly 6,600 non-citizens despite their indicating they were not U.S. citizens while applying for IDs and driver\u2019s licenses between June 2023 and June 2024, <\/span>The Daily Wire reported.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThese individuals answered \u2018no\u2019 when asked on a keypad whether they were a U.S. citizen when applying for drivers\u2019 licenses and identification cards, but through no fault of their own, the system registered them anyway,\u201d Sherrill <\/span>wrote<\/span> in an X post.<\/span><\/p>\n

Trump administration officials have said the non-citizens who illegally voted could face prosecution and deportation.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cPeople need to see the consequences of voting when you\u2019re not allowed to,\u201d Harmeet Dhillon, Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights, <\/span>told<\/span> conservative podcast host Benny Johnson.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Back on Capitol Hill, Democrats argued the stock trading ban didn\u2019t go far enough, but ultimately opposed the bill because it included provisions from the SAVE America Act.<\/span><\/p>\n
