In May, Platner refused to apologize after resurfaced online posts appeared to show him mocking a Purple Heart recipient who was almost killed in a firefight with the Taliban.<\/span><\/p>\n

Platner was confronted near his home in Sullivan, Maine, and asked whether he regretted a since-deleted Reddit post in which he said wounded Army veteran Ted Daniels \u201cdidn\u2019t deserve to live,\u201d The Daily Wire previously reported. In response, Platner attempted to defend his own military record, referring to the accusations as \u201cslanderous and offensive.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI did four tours in the infantry; any attempt to say that I disrespect veterans is slanderous and offensive,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n

Resurfaced Reddit posts also showed the Senate hopeful describing himself as a \u201ccommunist\u201d and denigrating cops and white people.<\/p>\n

\u201cI got older and became a communist,\u201d Platner, a veteran and oyster farmer, wrote on a Reddit forum dubbed \u201cantiwork\u201d in 2021, according to\u00a0CNN. He also said he was a \u201cvegetable growing, psychedelics taking social these days\u201d in a United States Marine Corps subreddit that same year, saying that he \u201cstill got the guns though, I don\u2019t trust the facsists [sic] these days,\u201d citing his past military experience in the post.<\/p>\n

\u201cLiving in white rural America, I\u2019m afraid to tell you they actually are,\u201d the Democrat said about white Americans.<\/p>\n

\u201cBastards. Cops are bastards. All of them, in fact,\u201d Platner said in another post.<\/p>\n

In addition,\u00a0the Washington Post\u00a0reported multiple posts he made to Reddit in 2013 regarding sexual assault, including in the military.<\/p>\n

Three of Platner\u2019s ex-girlfriends described volatile and \u201ctoxic\u201d relationships with the Senate hopeful, claiming he demeaned women, became physically threatening, and was repeatedly unfaithful. On one occasion, an ex-girlfriend accused Platner of twisting her arm, shoving her into a bedroom, and holding the door shut until she became \u201ccalm.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Platner campaign denied allegations of misconduct and rushed to MS NOW to do damage control.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThere are some allegations in this piece that I just want to be kind of unequivocal about, are simply not true,\u201d <\/span>Platner said on the television network.<\/span> \u201cAnything alleging physicality, anything alleging that I knew what my tattoo was, these are the statements of someone who\u2019s politically motivated.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

On election eve, Platner\u2019s former political director blew the whistle on her former boss, alleging the Senate hopeful knew the meaning behind his Nazi tattoo and \u201cexhibits a pattern of dishonest behavior.\u201d<\/p>\n

In an op-ed for The Washington Post, former Maine state representative Genevieve McDonald wrote that her enthusiasm for the Platner campaign collapsed after she learned of his misconduct.<\/p>\n

\u201cI quit the campaign in October, disturbed by what I learned about the candidate and concerned about his potential impact on the Democratic Party\u2019s prospects in my home state,\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n

In September, Platner told McDonald he had a \u201cproblematic\u201d tattoo that could raise questions, but chalked it up to it being a \u201cmilitary thing.\u201d<\/p>\n
