Crews responded to the rupture near the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Holloway Drive around 3:55 am. The broken 36-inch water main was just steps from a 15-foot, 700-pound Rocky & Bullwinkle statue, which suddenly found itself overlooking a roaring urban river instead of the usual Sunset Boulevard traffic.<\/p>

\u201cObviously, a lot of people are still in a state of shock,\u201d West Hollywood Mayor John Heilman told the California Post on Thursday morning. \u201cThey have had water damage to their sub-garages. Their cars have been significantly damaged. We also have a couple of units that have been impacted. Right now, people are just trying to assess the damage, get people out to help them with repairs and the remediation.\u201d<\/p>

Mayor Heilman and the Los Angeles County Fire Department said there have been no reports of injuries.<\/p>

Los Angeles Democratic Mayor Karen Bass said the rupture was the consequence of aging infrastructure. \u201cIt is my understanding that these pipes are over 100 years old.\u201d<\/p>
